In this video, we find a unique type of writing by a Muslim woman and a lover of the Qur’an in embroidery work. She has spent 32 years of her precious life in needle work in writing the whole Glorious Qur’an on the pieces of the cloth with thread and the needle by her hand.
The woman belongs to Gujarat, Pakistan, and her name is A. Naseem Akhtar. According to her, she remained with ablution and complete purity during her embroidery work of writing the Qur’an. Her written Qur’an consists of 10 volumes and every volume includes three parts of the Qur’an. And every part has twelve pages. She began this auspicious task in 1987 A.D. and was completed in 2018.
This copy of the Glorious Qur’an includes all details related to numbers of the verses, name of the chapter, stop signs, places of prostrations the same as the printed copies of the Qur’an.
Combination between Family Duties and the Embroidery
According to her retired husband, she was always successful in fulfilling her duties towards her husband and children and she managed to combine between her embroidery task in the writing of the Glorious Qur’an and her household and family duties with great perfection. She gave everyone their due rights by raising children and serving the family. She never fell short in fulfilling her family duties and responsibilities.
On this occasion, we will talk in brief about the Glorious Qur’an; its codification, memorization and transmission across the history.
How was the Glorious Qur’an Revealed and Preserved?
The Glorious Qur’an is the sacred scripture of the Muslims revealed by Allah the Almighty. The revelation of the Qur’an to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took about 23 years.
The words of the Glorious Qur’an are divine by Allah the Almighty Himself not by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The verses were first brought by the Angel Jibreel (peace be upon him) from Allah the Almighty and were conveyed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Then the revealed verses were dictated by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and were written by the Companions on the supplies available at the time, such as skins, stones and some parts of the palm trees etc.
The memorization and writing continued since the beginning of the revelation until the last revelation received by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). There were some Companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) who were famous in writing and the divinely guided four caliphs or successors of the Prophet were among them.
Collection of the Glorious Qur’an
In addition, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to memorize the revealed verses immediately as he was very enthusiastic to memorize it and preserve it instructing his Companions to memorize the verses as soon as they were conveyed by the Angel Jibreel.
Some of the companions used to recite the whole Qur’an in a few days. Thus, the Qur’an was preserved in the hearts and minds and in the written form. Soon after the death of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the written objects were collected and combined in one volume in the era of the first caliph Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) with advice from the `Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him).
Preservation of the Qur’an in the Present Age
Now, there are millions of memorizers of the Glorious Qur’an across the world who have memorized the entire divine text by heart, even there are Huffazh (memorizers) of eQur’an in the Muslim world who recites the entire Qur’an in one night.
Qur’an and Taraweeh Prayer
In the holy month of Ramadan, there is a special prayer called Taraweeh which is performed in congregation where at least one part of the 30 parts of Qur’an is recited by a Hafizh without seeing in the Qur’an. As a result, the entire Qur’an is completed during the month of Ramadan, and this happens in the majority of mosques in the Islamic world.
